DFS is a large feed and nutrition company in Iowa delivering nutrition through innovative products and services that support the food chain.
 

The Location Leader will build, support, and lead a performance-based feed milling team capable of meeting current business needs and aggressive growth objectives in the years ahead.  This position will lead and be accountable for co-worker safety, food safety, feed production, ingredient receiving, inventory management, product quality, co-worker growth and development.  This position will work with the Director of Manufacturing to implement DFS strategies to achieve business goals.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure co-worker safety by enforcing, training, and following OSHA and DFS policies and procedures.
  • Lead the continued efforts to produce the highest quality product while complying with DFS and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, ISO, HACCP, GMP, FSMA, etc).
  • Ensure the production and delivery of feed meets established KPI’s and the requisite customer service levels and product quality standards.
  • Support continuous improvement processes for the feed mill and other operations. Investigate and plan for new methods to reduce costs in relation to equipment, energy, and manpower.
  • Oversee matters pertaining to mill personnel, delivery, inventory control, and customer service (including but not limited to policies, procedures, hiring, safety awareness, training, etc.).
  • Create and structure a safe environment for feed milling and ensure products are manufactured and delivered according to all required federal/state safety, environmental, and feed regulations and company/customer standards for biosecurity.
  • Build a strong sense of teamwork with all levels of production and the leadership team to maintain the company culture in the face of rapid growth. Provide leadership by example to develop excellent decision-making at all levels of the organization strengthening the values and culture.
  • Prepare and execute the operations budget. Develop operational performance reports monthly, quarterly and annually.
  • Develop, lead and support capital projects at the production facility.
  • Support the company’s customer service department providing rapid response to issues pertaining to customer needs.
  • Work with management team to implement and meet customer expectations and assist the commercial team and executive management to gain new customers.
  • Participate in interviews and training.
  • Organize, lead, and participate in employee meetings.
  • Grow capacity of direct and indirect reports through effective coaching, development and feedback.
  • Actively ensure deployment and implementation of strategic plan items applicable to location.
  • Independently manage workload and ensure follow-up.
The successful candidate will have:
 

·         A minimum of 5 to 10 years of progressive responsibilities in a large feed manufacturing operation is preferred. 

·         Prior experience managing managers or supervisors is desirable. 

·         Previous experience managing a two-shift, “at-capacity” feed mill with 30+ employees is a plus.

·         Experience in scale-up and facility expansions and multi-site feed milling operations is desirable. 

·         A record of sustained improvement in operational performance and a data-driven approach to problem solving in operational issues is required. 

·         A stellar track record of meeting rigorous regulatory agency and internal company quality and compliance requirements is required.  Experience with ISO certification or relevant feed safety certification is desirable. 

·         A love of challenges, sense of urgency, and “never give up” tenacity.  An obsession with meeting customer needs in a manner profitable to the company.

·         Proven ability to work closely and collaboratively with other manager and partners.  Successful record of leading, training, motivating, and developing staff through collaboration, trust, foresight, and listening.

·         Strong written and oral communication (including listening) skills.  Unquestioned integrity and ethics. 

·         Sound judgment, high energy, and flexibility within the structure.

·         A bachelor’s degree is preferred.  A major or minor in feed science or animal science is highly desirable.
